Excellent biographical historical fiction!

Polemic novels usually suffer from deadening preachiness, but Manning is writing in the venerable tradition of Stephen Crane and Frank Norris.

My Notorious Life is a fascinating glimpse at how desperate things used to be for women and also inspiring for the fight that continues.
